The Web Edit No. 26

Hey! It's been quite awhile since I've done one of these, and if you've been here before you may recall that this segment used to be called The Weekly Web Edit. Over the last few months, more like the last year, I've spent so much time on other projects, on examining my content and what exactly I'm posting, that keeping this a dedicated weekly feature just didn't feel right anymore. Not that it was some big dramatic revelation or anything, but looking at the larger picture, this just wasn't a priority. And that's completely ok.

But these roundups can be quite fun to put together and in toying with the idea of bringing it back, I polled my Instagram audience to gauge interest. Turns out, you're all fans of The Web Edit and I really appreciate your feedback and the time you put into reading these posts.

So, in the spirit of moving forward, I've dropped the restrictive naming culture and switched up the different categories you'll find below. I'm now including a Jobs section because I may just be slightly addicted to job hunting. I really love my job, but I'm always curious about what's out there and love reading different job descriptions. I also really love helping friends find cool jobs to apply for so it is my hope that this new section will be helpful. Fair warning, most of the jobs will be in the marketing/creative/digital fields since that's where my expertise lies. And if you ever need help with the application process or just want a second pair of eyes to look over your resume, feel free to send me an email at styledbyskylar@gmail.com

Anyway, I have to get back to prepping for Sunday's CREATE event so here are some of my favorites from around the web this week:

The Weekly Web Edit No. 25

This past week was full of more downs than ups but this long weekend was everything I needed and more. Even though it was incredibly hot, the weekend was both relaxing and fun, full of new adventures in the city.

A few weeks ago, I introduced you to Telula juices and am currently running a giveaway on my Instagram for a case of juice, plus the picnic blanket featured above! These fruit and vegetable juices are shelf-stable, organic, cold-pressed, non-gmo and affordable! They’re incredibly delicious and are so convenient for getting those nutrients in on the go! Cold-pressing the beneficial nutrients and enzymes in the fruits and vegetables remain intact.

The juices come in 10 different varieties, including four chia blends, and contain no added sugars (except for the Spicy Lemon flavor which has just a hint of organic honey). Because they’re shelf stable you don’t have to store them in the fridge until they’re opened, which is great for those who have limited fridge space like I do! You can find Telula in the juice aisle in a store near you.

Make sure to enter the giveaway here!

In the meantime, here’s everything you need to read, make, listen to, and more:

The Importance of Saying No

The last few months I've said "no" a lot. No to posting, no to brand partnerships, no to activities that don't genuinely interest me, no to doing things just because everyone else is doing them. And it's been great.

The Weekly Web Edit No. 22

This week I had to have two of my wisdom teeth removed and was stuck on a liquid diet for several days, which totally sucks by the way. It might sound fun to get to eat ice cream and smoothies for every meal but I was constantly hungry and just exhausted from the lack of fuel (food).

But on Monday I start a new job and I'm launching a really exciting new project this week as well! Stay tuned for more details coming soon!

#SbySTurns1 Celebration

Now that a few weeks have passed and my stress levels have gone (somewhat) back to normal, I can finally share with you all of the details from the #SbySTurns1 celebration!

Before this, I had never planned a party of this size, and although it was so much harder than I expected, I was lucky enough to work with some of the most amazing people in the Bay Area who were able to make my brunch dreams come true. I honestly can't thank everyone enough for all of the help and support I received in order to pull off this celebration. I am so, so grateful for each and every one of you.

Take a look at some of the details and photos from the party below!

The Weekly Web Edit No. 18

Well hello there, it's been awhile! This month has been insanely busy and if I'm being truthfully honest, there were things going on that were just more important than blogging. And that's ok!

I was getting so stressed out having not posted in awhile, getting behind on work, and then someone asked me, "what happens if you don't get a post up?" Nothing. Nothing happens because this is something I do for fun, for me, and no one is forcing me to do it.

Over the last month, my college friends came to visit, my sister came to visit, I celebrated #SbySTurns1 and I officially became a Thrive Market Ambassador! In case you haven't heard about Thrive, it's an online marketplace where you can get all of the best healthy foods at wholesale prices. I get all of my pantry staples and favorite items through Thrive, most of which I can't find in stores near me. As a Thrive Ambassador, I'm happy to provide you with a free 30 day membership to try it out! In case you don't know where to start, some of my favorites are: Eating Evolved Chocolate, Simple Mills Banana Bread Mix, Jillz Crackerz, Primal Kitchen Avocado Oil, Yumbutter Cashew Butter, and Four Sigmatic Mushroom Coffee.

Styled by Skylar Turns 1!

One year ago today I launched Styled by Skylar, and what a year it has been. So let's go back, back to the beginning.... (if you're not singing that in Hilary Duff's voice I don't know if we can be friends.)

A year ago I was living in Charlottesville, Virginia, not loving what I was doing. I wanted to find a new job and break into the fashion & lifestyle world. But the problem was that I didn't have any technical background in this field and didn't feel like my work experience and portfolio up until that point proved that I knew fashion or even that it was an interest of mine.
