This Madewell cactus shirt is the perfect tomboy chic update to my daily jeans and a t-shirt uniform.
I’m not entirely sure why, but I have an obsession with cactus shirts. It all started with this one from Urban Outfitters. There’s something about cacti that is just so cute to me and adds just the slightest feminine touch to my otherwise tomboy style. So when I saw this shirt at Madewell I just knew that I had to have it.
I’ve been trying to mix up my daily jeans and a t-shirt uniform lately so I have a feeling this button down is going to be on repeat all spring and summer. It’s the perfect “borrowed from the boys” meets preppy hipster look, which pretty accurately describes me. Plus, it perfectly dresses up my jeans because if it has a collar is “dressy,” right?!
Here I’ve paired the shirt with my simple white ASOS sneakers, favorite Gap black skinnies, and two different pairs of bold sunglasses. This blue pair from A.J. Morgan helps to add just the slightest bit of color to my otherwise monochrome looks. I actually bought the other pair to wear to a roller disco party a few weeks ago and just fell in love with wearing them not as part of a costume. Now if only I could get away with wearing the rest of that Studio 54 look in real life… I’ve linked a few modern day versions of the rose-colored sunglasses below!
A quick note on sizing: This shirt is meant to be big and oversized. You can tuck it in, or not, but it’s boxy and the sleeves are intended to be more like a half sleeve. I’m wearing a size small because I didn’t want it to be extremely oversized. I would have gotten the x-small (it’s just a little bit slimmer through the torso) but the sleeves were just the slightest bit tight so I went with the small. If you want the shirt to have a boyfriend fit, I recommend ordering your normal size.
